After a general introduction to solar activity, its measurement and its effects on the Earth, various areas of biological research are sketched, disciplines which have a direct or indirect relationship with the Sun:
Bioheliology, instead of the term usually found in the literature :
"heliobiology", which has a different etymological meaning.
Biometeorology
Biomagnetism
Electro - Biometeorology
the "Kirlian Effect"
Chronobiology
Photobiology
We believe that all of these fields of study may be grouped as divisions of a broader, interdisciplinary area, BIOCOSMOLOGY. We define Biocosmology as the study of the physical factors, directly or indirectly related to cosmic phenomena, and the influence that these physical factors have on life in all of its manifestations, from the biochemical/cellular level, to that of the most complicated expressions of behaviour.
We have applied the statistical analysis of t-Student to two groups of behavioural data : 1) arithmetic errors observed in the daily inventory records of two commercial distributing firms; 2) crime data.
Samples were selected according to low (A) and high (B) values of an index of solar activity, the daily solar flux measured at a frequency of 2,800 MHz.
The analysis of the data demonstrated that :
1) almost three times more arithmetic errors were made on days of low solar activity (p = < 0.01 - 0.05).
2) the total number of crimes was higher on days of low solar activity (p = < 0.02).
3) certain classes of crimes were also observed to occur more frequently on days of low solar activity (p = < 0.01 - 0.10)
4) certain other crimes showed no statistically significant difference in their volumes on days of low and high solar activity. We designate these crimes, PREMEDITATED.
5) in one instance, a higher number of crimes was found on days of high solar activity. We suggest that such crimes may be committed by PROFESSIONALS.
